3 Easy Ways To Make Restaurant Quality Pizza At Home This Winter

Indoor Pizza with Outdoor Taste

By this time of year, those warm Summer evenings spent cooking pizza outside in your garden to enjoy with your friends and family are but a distant memory. During the winter it takes a hardcore enthusiast (or just plain madness) to consider going outside and firing up your oven to stand outside in the cold and dark cooking pizza.

It’s at this time of year that the takeaway seems a tempting option. Give them a ring, snuggle up on the sofa and wait for the doorbell to ring.

But stop! It doesn’t have to be this way. What if you could make yourself pizzas that will kick the pants off the local takeaway (not to mention save you a fortune) without setting foot outside the comfort of your home?

Here are 3 ways you can make amazing pizza in a fraction of the time it takes the takeaway to come that you can prepare in your pyjamas!

  1. Use a pizza stone or baking steel. Your kitchen oven isn’t great at storing heat and doesn’t get near the temperatures of an outdoor oven such as an Ooni, Roccbox etc. But fear not, you can get close to the same results by using either a pizza stone or a baking steel. These are excellent thermal conductors of heat and once heated up in your oven, will retain their heat more than sufficiently to cook the base of your pizza to perfection. Defrost your Homemade Pizza Club dough in the fridge for 1-2 days before you want to use it. On the day you want to cook, simply heat up the stone or steel for around 30 minutes. While it’s heating up, you can roll out your dough, add your sauce, cheese and toppings before sliding it onto the stone or steel using your outdoor pizza peel. One of the best pizza stones we’ve tried is the Kamado Joe. Coming in 2 sizes, 18” and 24”, the smaller will fit in most larger ovens, but be sure to check before you buy! Your other option is a baking steel. This option is more expensive but arguably better as, being made of steel, it can absorb more heat. 2. Frying Pan Pizza. This is a genius hack for getting a pizza onto your plate and into your mouth in minutes! For this, you’ll need a nice thick frying pan or skillet. Get it on the hob for at least 5 minutes until it’s as hot as can be. While that’s going, roll out your pizza dough to roughly the same diameter as the pan before transferring it over using a pizza peel. Cook for a minute before flipping it like a pancake, then add some sauce, cheese and toppings while it’s still in the pan before popping everything into the oven for 2-3 minutes. That’s 10 minutes work at most, and if it sounds like something you’d like to try, check out this video we made on how to do it. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/jGz52kiR3Xg
  3. Use our pre-stretched part-baked bases. Our part-baked pizza bases are the perfect and easiest way possible to knock up delicious pizza in just a few minutes. Made with a 48-hour fermented sourdough, they’ve already been lightly baked in our ovens, so just require topping and baking for a few minutes. They require zero preparation and you can use them straight from the freezer. No mess, no stress and delicious pizza in less time than it takes to decide which takeaway you want! Hopefully these 3 tips will convince you to ditch the expensive and unhealthy takeaways and replace them with your own creations. At least until you can fire up the garden oven again next spring!
